I was ten minutes away from The Sunflower Field when the sky turned black in the distance. There had been no rain on the radar all day long. Casey’s makeup was flawless. Her hair was perfectly done, with just a hint of baby’s breath tucked in the back. She was wearing the most beautiful custom maternity dress. Casey + Eddie were all ready for their maternity session. But the weather had other plans.
This wasn’t fair. It had rained at their engagement session. It had rained on their wedding day (which is good luck, though). We avoided the rain at Casey’s bridal session, but we didn’t get any sunshine either. We even made a joke about the weather when we scheduled this maternity session.
So we stood under a pop up tent with the sweetest owners and chatted about the rain, how coronavirus has impacted this pregnancy for Casey and Eddie, and I prayed for the rain to go away and the sun to come out. The sun came out, almost taunting us through the rain. I assured Casey we were going to make this work! Finally the rain stopped. We went into the field, while most other guests had given up on the weather. The sun was falling fast, the flowers were drooping and wet, but we were ready to celebrate this pregnancy and these two becoming parents!
Baby Ethan, we are so excited you are on your way! You have so many people that love you already and can’t wait to meet you. Your mom and dad are great! They are going to teach you about all kinds of things, including baseball! You’re going to love them and they are going to take such great care of you. They put in so much effort just to document this special time of you being in your mommy’s tummy, just imagine how much they are going to do for you when you are here!
Casey + Eddie, I know you’re no stranger to the rain. Literally and figuratively. You’ve weathered storms already and those will continue to come and go. But I know your love will help you guys power through anything. You know how much I adore you guys and I’m cheering you on! I can’t wait to meet Baby Ethan and watch your family grow.
